Reedy Gallery: “Reflections from Our Natural World” – Chaska, MN

Reedy Gallery: “Reflections from Our Natural World” – Chaska, MN

On display now through May 2nd in the Reedy Gallery
Minnesota Landscape Arboretum: Artists Kathleen Krishnan, Mary Welke and Alison Price derive their visual cues from nature. Their work serves as a reminder: If we look closely, nature can inspire awe with her beauty, provide solace, conjure memories and educate us. The artists’ varying paths using color, form and textural qualities result in a whole that makes us more deeply explore our relationship with the natural world.

About

The Reedy Gallery, established through the generosity of Darwin and Geri Reedy, offers eclectic interpretations of nature’s beauty, outdoor landscapes and scenes by talented, award-winning artists with roots in Minnesota. Works in oil, pastel, watercolor, acrylic and other media add nature-inspired artistry to engage visitors in exploring the beauty and wonders of the outdoors at the Arboretum.

Typically, four to five fine art exhibits are presented each year, touching on seasonal themes and explorations. Informal tours are offered weekly by trained volunteer docents and staff. Often, artists talks and painting demonstrations are scheduled in the Great Hall or in the gardens to round out the exhibit. Reedy Gallery exhibits are open year-round during Visitor Center hours and are free with Arboretum admission.

Art in the Reedy Gallery is for sale, with a portion of the proceeds from each sale directly benefitting the Arboretum as well as helping to support the local arts community.  Purchases can be made through the Arboretum Gift Store.

About

Karen Morris is an internationally acclaimed hat designer and milliner.  She started her line, Karen Morris Millinery, in 2011.  Karen studied millinery under famous milliners Edwina Ibbotson (London), Judy Bentinck (London), Jan Wutkowski (North Carolina) and Lina Stein (Ireland).

Karen was born in the British colony of Hong Kong, and moved to America in 2009. Her hats have been worn by celebrities including Rebel Wilson and Nicki Minaj, and at events around the world, including the Kentucky Derby, Royal Ascot, and to meet the Queen of England.

Karen’s work has been featured at museums and fashion events, including Fashion Week MN, Voltage, the American Craft Council, the Smithsonian and Pure London. Her work has appeared in Vogue, ELLE, Harper’s Bazaar, Hatalk, Pioneer Press and StarTribune, and seen on PBS’ MN Original, Fox 9 and WCCO TV.

Karen’s hats are available at distinguished boutiques, in her NE Minneapolis studio and shop, as well as online (kmhats.com).

Her work inspirations are from traveling, architectures and art sculptures. Philosophy of brand “Karen Morris Millinery” is Quality, Simplicity and Elegance.  Karen aims to apply both traditional and modern skills to develop a variety of hat shapes and textures, transformed into multi-functional collections that can be worn in an everyday environment, and yet still has a modern twist.

Most of the hats are formed with different shape of wooden hat blocks and handmade of exotic materials sourced from around the world. I love collaborating with local artists or designers to bring new design elements to my collections.

Teaching is also part of Karen’s career.  She has been teaching hat-making locally and internationally.  She hopes her effort can bring this long-lost craft – Millinery back to live.

About

As kids, summers meant escaping to the lake. Whether it was taking the boat out at sunset, sharing stories around the bonfire, or jumping off a well-worn dock, life was simply better at the lake. From Summer excursions to Northern Minnesota and weekend jaunts to Hayward, Wisconsin – some of our most vivid memories were created with friends and family around the lake.

Great Lakes has always been a product of the values we were raised on. We were taught to work hard but always find time to enjoy the finer things in life. To seek adventure and be proud of where you come from. We work tirelessly to infuse these values into our brand, our products, and the way we do business.
