Gull Lake Frozen Fore Winter Weekend – Brainerd, MN

Gull Lake Frozen Fore Winter Weekend – Brainerd, MN

About

The Gull Lake Frozen Fore Winter Weekend takes place in the Brainerd Lakes Area each February. This three-day celebration of all things winter, brings together a weekend of activities and fun for adults. From snow golfing to dancing on a frozen lake, this winter weekend is unlike any other.

Friday night begins with the annual Frozen Flop, our version of the polar plunge, which raises money for local charities. Not only does the Frozen Flop occur in the middle of Hole-in-the-Day bay, but also under a heated tent. Unlike any other flop, spectators stay warm, and floppers keep out of the wind making it a truly unique event. Following the flop, is our heated Tent Party! Showcasing an ice bar, food and live music, the Tent Party is a super way to kick off the evening.

Saturday morning begins with a Pancake Feed on the ice to get you ready for the day. Following the feed, Snow Golf begins. Here you can jump on provided shuttles, or drive your snowmobiles, and play nine holes of winter golf at nine different locations around the Gull Lake. We provide the golf club and a fresh supply of tennis balls so all you have to do is venture around the lake and try getting a point at each location. The diversity of each “golf” hole variety keeps the day entertaining. A Digital Scavenger Hunt also takes place throughout the day so keep that phone charged up. If you get a picture at each given location you will be entered to win 4 free tickets to the following Frozen Fore Winter Weekend. In the evening, the Saturday night Tent Party kicks off again with hours of great music under the heated tent. Stayed tuned for more Saturday activities, we are always adding more.

Finishing the Frozen Fore weekend is Sunday’s Food Fest. This cook-off features a variety of local restaurants showcasing their flavors in a taste competition for the best flavors in the area. Enter the heated tent at Hole-in-the-day Bay and take in the aromas of the Brainerd Lakes Area’s finest restaurants. Vote for your favorite after you’ve sampled them all and get ready for to hear the judges announce the winner.

Proceeds of the Frozen Fore Winter Weekend event are donated to Confidence Learning Center and Kids Against Hunger – Brainerd Lakes Area. Come support the kids! If you’re interested in participating in this fun and charitable event you can buy tickets online or at any of the sponsoring locations.

Minneapolis Institute of Art: America is haunted. Ghosts from our history are an inescapable and unsettled part of daily life. Not merely the realm of metaphor but present and tangible, urgently calling for contact, these otherworldly visitors have been central to our national identity. They populate our literature, our entertainment, and our art. Through times of mourning and trauma, artists have been integral to visualizing ghosts, whether national or personal, and in doing so have embraced the mysterious and the inexplicable. This exhibition explores the numerous ways that artists in the United States have made sense of their own experiences of the paranormal and the supernatural, developing a rich visual culture of the intangible.

ICYMI: Chip’s Clubhouse in St. Paul Restaurant Opened to Answer the Call for Comfort Food

ICYMI: Chip’s Clubhouse in St. Paul Restaurant Opened to Answer the Call for Comfort Food

A powerhouse trio has gathered to create sandwich greatness on Snelling Avenue. Tara Coleman, Gina Mangiameli, and Tim Leary have opened Chip’s Clubhouse on Snelling Avenue in Mac/Groveland. The new spot is right next to Coleman’s first restaurant, Hot Hands Pie & BiscuitsThe menu is packed with Americana comforts done beautifully, like prime rib sandwiches, a giant roll crammed full of sausage, roast chicken, and an $8 cheeseburger ready to rival other, pricier smashed burgers around town.

Coleman arrived in St. Paul with impressive experience, including having worked for Stefanie Izard in Chicago, to open Hot Hands Pie & Biscuits in 2019. Even with the pandemic, her flakey wares were popular enough to add delivery and expand hours.

Coleman recruited Mangiameli, who she worked with in Izard’s restaurant and was most recently with Hogsalt, to move here from Chicago to help launch the venture.

Then, through a serendipitous meeting involving dog walking and friends, Coleman connected with Tim Leary. Leary’s hospitality is well-known in the Twin Cities metro area, from his early days at the iconic Strip Club Meat & Fish to more recent days at Hai Hai in Minneapolis. Before Coleman could even finish telling Leary about her new plans, he interrupted her, “I’m in.”

“Chip’s is what I used to dream about when I was line cooking,” said Coleman. “Like when you say, ‘Man, if I could open a place with three of myself it’d be a little easier!’” But, rather than strike an ability to clone herself, Coleman’s partnered with two equally driven and talented pros.

Chip’s Clubhouse is open Thursday through Sunday for dinner dine in, carryout, and delivery.
