“A low-to-no waste brand: hand sourced & made in Minneapolis, MN”

The Artful Rugs of Things Borrowed: The textile business, Things Borrowed, grew out of a passion project in between Jorie Kosel’s work as an actor, as a costume designer, and at a local vintage shop.

Multidisciplinary artist Jorie Kosel put some spring in our step with her artful rugs that come to life through abstract patterns and vibrant colors. Kosel’s textile business, Things Borrowed, grew out of a passion project in between her work as an actor, as a costume designer, and at a local vintage shop.

These days (and nights), you’ll also find her crafting cocktails as a bartender at Demi in Minneapolis. Inspired by natural landscapes and topography, Kosel weaves her creations using wool yarn made from recycled bottles.

“My pieces are not meant to go with everything, to blend into a space or tie things together,” Kosel says. “They’re meant to energize, meant to make you smile.”

The textiles come in a range of sizes, from welcome mats, place mats, and pads for potted plants to art on the wall. Find more of her work on Instagram, @thingsborrowed.

ICYMI: A Giant Mural of Minneapolis Music Icon Prince!

ICYMI: A Giant Mural of Minneapolis Music Icon Prince!

The 100-foot-tall work by Miami artist Hiero Veiga was officially unveiled!

While the Interstate 35 bridge and several downtown buildings let their purple lights shine, Prince’s sisters Tyka and Norrine Nelson spoke to a large crowd gathered by the mural.

Jeff Wheeler, Star Tribune

“This street and this city mean so much to us,” Tyka Nelson told the crowd. “You showed up, and you showed out.”

Before the speeches, DJ Mickey Breeze, 20, spun Prince tunes, and people partied to live music by Dr. Mambo’s Combo, a veteran Twin Cities funk band with which Prince would occasionally sit in at Bunker’s Bar in the North Loop.

Awash in purple with hints of pink and gold, the mural features in the lower right corner Prince with a prominent Afro, an image based on a 1977 Robert Whitman photograph taken before the singer signed with Warner Bros.

“I wanted a narrative,” Veiga said. “And I wanted to have the symbol but not so obvious.”

Other speakers included Twin Cities arts consultant Joan Vorderbruggen and marketing executive Sharon Smith-Akinsanya,who worked for Prince in the 1990s. She began a campaign for the mural with his blessings in 2015, the year a Bob Dylan mural went up on a private building at Hennepin Avenue and 5th Street in downtown Minneapolis. The Prince mural was also privately financed.

The Soft-Wave Bob Is Breezy, Boho, and About to be Everywhere

The Soft-Wave Bob Is Breezy, Boho, and About to be Everywhere

estelanewbold / Instagram

In fact, that’s one of the times a soft-wave bob works best. The unstructured shape complements outgrown strands, especially if you like a more laid-back, undone look. But equally the breezy styling can help loosen up ultra-neat cuts, like a freshly chopped blunt bob, and give it a much more relaxed vibe.

Beach waves have headlined for years, but for summer 2022 this offers an even subtler cool-girl take that’s more minimal and less deliberate.

Here are nine of our favorite ways to wear the soft-wave bob.

The caramel soft-wave bob

Influencer Estela Newbold paired soft-wave sections at the front of her hair with pretty caramel money-piece highlights.

Baby braid soft-wave bob

Digital creator Steph Hui teamed naturally wavy hair with cute baby braids framing her face.

Side-parted soft-wave bob

Laura Harrier’s hairstylist opted for side-parted soft-wave bob, flicking extra waves over the other side for volume and to emphasize the gently waved texture.

Shaggy soft-wave bob

Actor Ella Purnell rocked loose, scrunched, unstructured soft waves for a rebel take on the style.

French soft-wave bob

Model Marsella Rae’s soft-wave bob is a cheeky French bob length, hitting at the lip and making the most of her naturally wavy texture.

Semistraight soft-wave bob

Actor Zoey Deutch’s soft-wave bob is a little more structured. It looks like S waves have been styled in, then combed out to leave a much looser, softer wave.

Messy soft-wave bob

We love model Amrita-Karma’s slept-in texture. It’s the hair equivalent of no-makeup makeup—slightly styled but still very natural-looking.

Tucked soft-wave bob

Model Kaia Gerber’s soft-wave bob looks beautifully undone—like it’s been tucked behind her ears and left to air-dry to encourage some natural movement.

Blunt soft-wave bob

Rose Byrne’s more structured soft-wave bob features one giant wave that’s been stretched out and loosened up. It’s a pretty way to emphasize her sliced blunt shape.
