The Art Of Banksy Making It’s Mark ln The Heart Of Minneapolis!

The Art Of Banksy hold the world’s largest collection of privately owned Banksy Art. This globally acclaimed showcase features original and authenticated works associated with, arguably, the most intriguing and talked-about artist in modern history. On display are prints, canvasses, screenprints, sculptures, unique works and limited-edition pieces mainly dated between the years 1997 to 2008, the period which resulted in Banksy’s most recognisable and well-known works.

The exhibit features iconic works such as ‘Girl and Balloon’, ‘Flower Thrower’ and ‘Rude Copper’ alongside some of Banksy’s lesser known masterpieces. Banksy is most infamous for his outdoor art which can be found in streets all around the world. Banksy’s indoor pieces – original and unique works on canvas, wood and paper – have been less exposed and are also on display at this exhibition.

About

Banksy, whose identity remains a mystery is considered one of the world’s top political artists. In 2010, Time magazine selected the British artist for its list of the worlds’ 100 most influential people among the company of Barack Obama, Steve Jobs and Lady Gaga. Over the years, Banksy has carried out a considerable number of ‘pranks’. One of the biggest stories in the art world recently was Banksy having his “Girl with Balloon” painting go through the shredder just moments after the work was sold for nearly $1.4 million at auction.

The exhibition will fill the same venue that currently hosts the Immersive Van Gogh experience:

W Minneapolis – The Foshay presents their first Artist in Residence, Jena Holliday!

We rise in unity.

Jena Holliday: Her work is heavily influenced by her culture, her upbringing as a young black girl in Minnesota and the affirmations her parents instilled in her to dream big, hope and create the life she wanted to see. She is inspired by the diversity of women in the world, the stories they each hold and the beauty their differences present. “My art shares the power we have together. To be able to partner and share the importance of the work I create in the W Minneapolis, a brand that highlights and supports local entrepreneurs feels impactful, exciting and fresh. I am honored to be the first artist in residence”,
Jena’s work will be on display starting March 16th.

‘Avenues of Creation’ Exhibit Expresses Ojibwe Pride – Minneapolis, MN

‘Avenues of Creation’ Exhibit Expresses Ojibwe Pride – Minneapolis, MN

Prolific artist and designer Steven Premo of the Mille Lacs Band of the Ojibwe people recently got his Twin Cities debut solo exhibit at the All My Relations Arts gallery in Minneapolis, running now thru April 16th.

Even if the name sounds unfamiliar, you may already know his work. “A self-taught artist and designer, Steve’s artistic practice takes many forms, including graphic designer, illustrator, fine artist, muralist, and fabric designer, all contributing to the legacy of the Mille Lacs Band,” a press release states. Premo has provided art direction and instruction to local schools, and more than 500 of his illustrations and graphics have been published by the Minnesota Historical Society Press, Minneapolis Public Schools, Hazelden Treatment Center, and other organizations, according to the release.

The exhibit comes by way of the Native American Community Development Institute and the All My Relations Arts gallery. In the form of a retrospective showcase, Avenues of Creation will express Ojibwe pride, trace the evolution of Ojibwe art, and highlight Premo’s multi-disciplinary approach (or, his “avenues” of expression). It will run at the gallery, on East Franklin Avenue in Minneapolis, now thru April 16 th.

“Even though I work in contemporary art forms—painting, illustrations, textile design—I hope to advance the idea that Ojibwe art forms are both old and new and are not limited to birch bark and the materials our ancestors used (though I also love those mediums),” he says in the release, “but rather have evolved just as we have evolved in the modern day.”

As a child, Premo embraced art while bedridden due to a serious leg injury. Drawing and painting guided his journey toward “cultural identity, belonging, sense of self, and healing.” His mother’s teachings in beadwork, birch bark, and quilt work also sparked his interest in textile design.

“At Mille Lacs today, we are the descendants of Ojibwe leaders, men and women, who refused to leave our homelands at the turn of the century,” Premo says. “They continued to harvest rice and maple syrup, hunt and fish, as we do today. My art takes its inspiration from our lifeways and history, and from those men and women who offered decades of consistent and strong leadership. If we cease our traditions, we cease to be Native people.”

Bell Museum: Seeing Birds and Birds Through Dakota Eyes Exhibit and Talk Integrates Art and Science

Bell Museum: Seeing Birds and Birds Through Dakota Eyes Exhibit and Talk Integrates Art and Science

Seeing Birds

Birds have always captured the human imagination. They are fantastically beautiful, occurring in a huge variety of colors and forms. They can fly high in the air and dive deep in the water, representing a freedom that inspires us. Through art, science, and careful observation, we have been able to probe some of the mysteries of birds. Still, they elude our grasp.

The exhibition Seeing Birds integrates art, science, and nature to ignite curiosity and wonder about the beauty and biology of birds, engaging visitors in an exploration of birds, their environments, and their evolution. It focuses on critical research on birds from the University of Minnesota, reviewing advances in our understanding of birds made through careful observation of their behavior and habitat and revealing current research that advances knowledge of our changing world.

The Bell Museum provides a window into the world of research at the University of Minnesota and the role and impact of collections-based research on our world. Seeing Birds highlights the ways that people learn from and connect with nature and the environment with birds as an entry point, while also recognizing the Bell Museum’s past and present contributions to the field of ornithological research, and to habitat and bird conservation efforts.

Minneapolis Institute of Art: America is haunted. Ghosts from our history are an inescapable and unsettled part of daily life. Not merely the realm of metaphor but present and tangible, urgently calling for contact, these otherworldly visitors have been central to our national identity. They populate our literature, our entertainment, and our art. Through times of mourning and trauma, artists have been integral to visualizing ghosts, whether national or personal, and in doing so have embraced the mysterious and the inexplicable. This exhibition explores the numerous ways that artists in the United States have made sense of their own experiences of the paranormal and the supernatural, developing a rich visual culture of the intangible.
