St. Patrick’s Day Irish Celebration & Parade – St. Paul, MN

St. Patrick’s Day Irish Celebration & Parade – St. Paul, MN

St. Patrick’s Day Irish Celebration

Each year, Irish Arts Minnesota hosts the annual St. Patrick’s Day Irish Celebration in downtown St. Paul, Minnesota.

For over 40 years, we’ve invited the community to see local musicians, dance performance groups, art exhibitions, and storytellers. In 2024 alone, over 7,000 people from the Twin Cities joined us at the Landmark Center to celebrate Irish-American culture. Proceeds from our events help sustain our programs, like educational grants, that support Irish artists all year round. The St. Patrick’s Day Celebration is produced by Irish Arts Minnesota and is presented in partnership with the Minnesota Landmarks.

We celebrate with all things Irish, with activities for the whole family!

Local and regional music on four different stages
Traditional Irish dancing from local dance schools and adult performance groups
Irish Marketplace with authentic Irish merchants, artisans, and informational resources
Traditional food, American-style sandwiches, with Irish and local beer
Seminars on Irish topics, including music, language, and theater
Children’s stage and crafts activities offered free of charge

Since 1967, the St. Patrick’s Association has been the organization behind the greatest Saint Patrick’s Day Parade in the nation, hosted in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

Not only does our 100% volunteer group sponsor and coordinate the parade each year, but we also strive to donate at least $10,000 annually to local charities.

Most of our planning and fundraising is done during the six weeks leading up to Saint Patrick’s Day. But, we have a year-round presence serving our community. Whether cleaning up a park on Earth Day, volunteering with the Ronald McDonald House, or spreading cheer during the summer parades, you will undoubtedly see us sporting our green throughout the Twin Cities!

Wood Week at North House Folk School

Can you smell the fresh cut wood?

North House Folk School’s annual Wood Week is just around the corner and will be log jam-packed with everything the woodworker’s heart desires. Choose from 11 courses in a variety of areas: from several types of carving to restoring and protecting tools, there’s a course for anyone who loves working in wood.

This year’s Featured Guest Instructor is Lara R. Domeneghetti, a highly accomplished woodcarver teaching for the first time in the US. Lara hails from an Italian multigenerational family of woodcarvers and gilders, but found her artistic home and passion in medieval Norwegian-style carving.

Wood Week at North House Folk School explores the many ways wood can be shaped into useful, beautiful and satisfying objects. Each course offering dives deep into a particular form or tool, but a shared interest in what can be made from trees links everyone who joins in on the fun.

2025 Spring Flower Show Features

Visitors will find four main areas to visit during the show — including floor-to-ceiling vignettes and gardens in the Oswald Visitor Center Great Hall; displays throughout the balcony and Rootstock cafe; more eye candy in the Snyder Building and Andersen Horticultural Library and the finale with tropical plants in the balmy Conservatory! Special features include…

  • An ever-changing display of floral exhibits by a different local florist or designer every week of the show.
  • Birds and Botanicals: Spot birds in sculptural form among the blooms as part of a special art exhibit that intertwines the elegance of avian life with the lushness of plant forms. Featured artists are Fawzia Khan, Mindy Sisk and Patty Carmody Smith.
  • Herb garden: Touch and smell plants in this aromatic garden to lift your spirits and calm your system.
  • Mushrooms: Learn how to follow sustainable harvesting and foraging practices, see mushrooms in all their stages of growth, and experience the wonder of nature’s recyclers breaking down plant matter into its most basic building blocks.
  • Botanical Weavings of branches, grasses and other plants collected from the Arboretum grounds will hang from the beams of Oswald Visitor Center.
  • Enchanted Woodland Village: Imagine a world where elves and gnomes cavort featuring fairy houses – small and a new human-sized creation.
  • Woodland Friends Hunt: Join the quest to find our woodland friends! Five mischievous enchanted creatures have wandered out of the forest and are now hiding among the Flower Show blooms. Pick up your guide at the Information Desk and uncover their hiding spots — if you can! They love to explore, so check back each week to see where their adventures take them.
  • Uncover the hidden layers of plants: Terrariums reveal the layers of healthy soil and roots in plain sight, giving you a chance to slow down and see the smallest details.
  • Rootstock: Enjoy a meal or snack from the delicious variety of house-made soups, salads and sandwiches at Rootstock, open from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. daily. Round out your meal or snack with a fresh pastry, muffin or cookie. Wine and beer are available as well.

The John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon – Duluth, MN

The John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon – Duluth, MN

Established in 1980, the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon is the premiere slad race series in Noth America

World-class mushers including Jamie Nelson, John and Jason Baron have competed in the more than 300 mile event – facing off against other seasoned competitors as well as the extremes of northern Minnesota weather and the deceivingly rugged terrain of the trail. The “Beargrease” is a qualifier for the famed Iditarod race in Alaska.

The organization hosts a Mid-Distance race, The Beargrease 120, which also travels through the rugged Sawtooth mountains of the North Shore of Minnesota.  A recreational race, The Beargrease 40, also begins and ends on race day.

All check points and road crossings are easily accessible to the public and provide many opportunities for photographers, winter camping or simply quality time around a campfire with good people, hot chocolate and the thrill of seeing the amazing canine athletes in action.

Close to 400 volunteers from around the country come together each winter to assure the event happens. The John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, overseen by a Board of Directors elected by the general membership.
