Celebrate the heritage of Grand Portage each August with the National Park Service’s Rendezvous Days and the Grand Portage Band of Chippewa Pow-Wow, voted one of the Top 100 U.S. events by the American Bus Association.

The annual Grand Portage Rendezvous Days Celebration Pow-wow, sponsored by the Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa (Ojibwe), is an American Indian cultural gathering focused on dance, song and family celebration. The Pow-wow includes traditional foods, music, and craft stands along with other events in the community. Over 350 dancers participated in 2019’s Grand Portage Pow Wow. Mid-day Grand Entry Saturday and Sunday are particularly inspirational and colorful as U.S. and Canadian flags are raised to honor military veterans from Grand Portage. Staff bearers lead dancers, dressed in traditional regalia, into the Pow Wow ring. Through the Pow Wow, all people have the chance to experience Native American culture in a wonderful way.

10 am: Rendezvous Days Welcome & Arrival – Great Hall at the National Monument (Stone Bridge Singers)

6:30 pm: Old Timers’ Softball Game

7 pm: Pow-wow Warm-ups Royalty Contest

Saturday, August 13th

8 am: Mixed Softball Tournament begins (wooden bats for men, aluminum bats for women) Wooden bats provided.

9 am: Registration for 1 mile & 3 miles Walk-Run (Grand Portage Health Services)

10 am: Flag Raising (Grand Portage Honor Guard)

10:30 am: Walk-Run begins

1 pm: Grand Entry Pow-wow, Honoring of Grand Portage Veterans, Flag Raising

2 pm: Bingo (Fire Hall Garage)

5 pm: Men’s Horseshoe Tournament (Softball Field)

5 pm: Feast (Pow-wow Grounds)

7 pm: Evening Grand Entry

8 am: Mixed Softball Tournament resumes

8 am: Breakfast (Pow-wow Grounds), Flag Raising (Grand Portage Honor Guard)
