A six-string slant featuring a lineup of Minnesota heroes, national and beyond artists, community strums and gear swaps, improvisers, and expos from some of Minnesota’s finest small arts businesses.
The 2024 lineup features Minnesota greats like Alan Sparhawk (Low), bassist Yohannes Tona (Cory Wong), surf rockers The Black Widows, Molly Dean and improviser Paul Metzger along with some especially intriguing touring names to keep an eye on. Saturday on the Promenade Stage – presented by Baird Financial Jandric Antkowiak Group – composer and creative music legend Jamaaladeen Tacuma comes in from Philly for a trio set and emerging country-blues songwriter Nicky Diamonds comes in from Texas playing tunes off his newest “Perdido en la Salsa” record. Guitarist Ava Mendoza will perform a solo set and join Jamaaladeen Tacuma on Saturday to close out the afternoon’s music before Minnesota’s The Last Waltz takes over the Promenade for their annual summer show on the lake.

Basilica Block Party 2024 Lineup. Headliners include the Goo Goo Dolls and Counting Crows. Other musical guests like Phillip Phillps and Ingrid Andress will be there, too.
…
After a two-year hiatus, the Basilica Block Party is coming back, although not at the Basilica of St. Mary. This summer, the party will take place in a new location right along the Mississippi River, Boom Island Park.
So far, the lineup on the local stage includes a wide mix of genre, featuring Run Westy Run, Black Widows, Nur-D, She’s Green, Cindy Lawson, and more.
On the main stage, opening up Friday, is Yam Haus, a pop-rock trio from Minneapolis. Their newest album, “Stupid and Famous,” was released in 2023 and has all the makings of a good summer album.
Next up is The Red Clay Strays, a country and gospel-fed soul group from Mobile, Alabama, that have made recent festival appearances at Lollapalooza and Under the Big Sky. Then comes Dean Lewis, an Australian pop singer-songwriter known for hits like “Be Alright” and “How Do I Say Goodbye.”
The Fray will also perform on Friday. Behind millennial classics like “Over My Head (Cable Car)” and “How to Save a Life.” Closing out the first night of the party is the Goo Goo Dolls. The pop-rock band, together since 1986, are known for hits like “Iris” off their 1998 album Dizzy Up the Girl.
Saturday will include the band Guytano, an electronic-pop group from Minnesota, and Ingrid Andress, an American country singer with the hit song “More Hearts Than Mine.” Following them is none other than Phillip Phillips, who rose to fame in 2012 on American Idol and Judah and the Lion, a folk band from Nashville, Tennessee.
Closing out the final night of performances is Counting Crows, the Grammy- and Academy Award-nominated rock band known for hits like “Big Yellow Taxi” and, a personal favorite, “Accidentally in Love” from Shrek 2.

World’s Largest Wild Rice Festival
…
For more than 70 years, the Deer River area has celebrated the World’s Largest Wild Rice Festival. Originally, the festival was established to bring the community together to celebrate the abundance of one of the area’s natural staples, wild rice. Though wild rice still grows abundantly in some of the area lakes and rivers, the advent of “paddy rice” which is grown commercially and harvested mechanically, has made the once regional product a national available commodity.
Like the rice itself, the Wild Rice Festival has evolved as well. Today’s wild rice festivals sponsored by the Deer River Lions Club feature a full schedule of activities designed to bring the whole Deer River Area Community together for a weekend of fun, food, entertainment, and fellowship. Whether you are young or old, there is always something to see and do at the festival.
