…Voyageur Canoe Outfitters is conveniently located on the edge of the most beautiful, lake based and paddle only wilderness in the world. Our location on Saganaga Lake and the Seagull River (BWCAW entry point #55), allows for a relaxed atmosphere prior to your BWCA Wilderness canoe trip adventure.  Upon arriving at this magnificent lakefront setting, a feeling of tranquility and peace will begin to develop within you. The beauty of the BWCA Wilderness natural wilderness and its exceptionally fresh air will cause you to breathe a deep sigh of relief, as the cares of your daily world begins to melt away.

The Voyageur Crew is here to introduce our guests to the special joy of wilderness paddling. Relaxing at a campsite, enjoying the abundant wildlife, and paddling the crystal clear lakes of the BWCAW (while hopefully catching a fish or two) are just a few of our favorite things to do in this life of ours at the end of the Gunflint Trail.   Once you paddle through Voyageur we believe you will never want to outfit anywhere else. We are confident that you will completely enjoy your time with us and we guarantee your satisfaction. Think about it, life is too short and vacations are even shorter. It makes the best sense to go with a sure thing.

Your vacation is our livelihood. Voyageur Canoe Outfitters was born from the sheer love of sharing wilderness adventures with people like you.  Our lives are devoted to creating the very finest experiences in the industry, which we have perfected since 1961. The BWCA Wilderness is our playground and we are dying to share it with you. Canoeing is streamlined to maximize your bird and wildlife sightings and the experience will only help you relish this natural world even more. The Voyageur Crew is made up of charismatic adventurers who are knowledgeable, committed to your safety, and devoted to giving you memories you will treasure for life. Best of all, our respect for the wild moose, fish, eagles and loons extends to our camping and cabin practices. We operate under the strictest, ‘Leave-No-Trace’ ethics. Even our Base Camp package remains eco-friendly without permanent structures or fueled devices, so you can enjoy the wildlife without harming their habitat. Rest assured that on a VCO trip, you would leave this special world as pristine as you found it.

The Spirit of the Voyageur is something we at Voyageur believe strongly in. The kind of adventure where you become in tune with nature and every moment is breathtaking.  Listening to the call of the wild, laughing around an evening campfire, or paddling past a majestic moose are just some of the wonderful things you can experience here in the beautiful and vast BWCAW or Quetico Park. Let the spirit of the Voyageur call you to where the Gunflint Trail ends and your Voyage begins.

Summer Guide 2020: Rebuilding, Education, Nourishment, Lifting Up

Citypages: We’ve joked in the past that summer is canceled. But in reality, this could be the most important summer of our lives. Things in the Twin Cities already looked vastly different in the throes of COVID-19. But after the police killing of George Floyd and the following protests and riots, the next few months are crucial. With that in mind, this year’s summer guide is focused on rebuilding, education, nourishment, and lifting up Black organizations.

Ready to rebuild? These groups and businesses could use your help

Black-owned/run arts orgs in the Twin Cities to support right now (and always)

Happy Anniversary Wise Acre Eatery – Minneapolis, MN

Happy Anniversary Wise Acre Eatery – Minneapolis, MN

On this weekend in 2011, Wise Acre proudly opened its doors for the first time. Our mission was simple, we wanted to connect people to the soil from which their food was grown in a way never done before. We wanted to create a restaurant with its very own farm and a farm with its very own restaurant. We wanted to serve food raised just 45 minutes from the doorway that our guests passed through. Our goal was to create a dining experience that extended beyond the spread that was passionately placed on our tables. We wanted to provide deeper meaning to the food, from where it came, and from whose hands it was made. Not an easy undertaking by any stretch of the imagination but worth it. During these years, much food has been enjoyed, drinks have been poured, experiences learned, tears shed (happy and sad), laughter had, and lifelong friendships and relationships forged. The team of people that created Wise Acre are all truly amazing people. Each and every one of you (and you know who you are) that has been a part of Wise Acre since the beginning have touched many with your smiles, your hospitality, and your passion. You are the heartbeat of Wise Acre. We have been honored to have guests with the same passion and desire to partake in a food system that is shorter, more sustainable, and leaves a positive impact on the world around us. No, this is not a post announcing the end of Wise Acre. Instead, we are sharing with you that our commitment and resolve grows stronger with each passing day. We are deeply saddened to see those that we respect so much being forced to close their doors. We don’t need to say how hard it is right now, it has already been said. We can only look forward to the day that we can welcome them back and enjoy their craft once again. For Wise Acre the fight will continue. We will look for new ways to stay true to our commitment of providing, fresh, local, clean food. We will adapt. We will look for new ways and new opprtunities. In the end we will change. Change is something we are not afraid of. Our survival is rooted in our ability to evolve. Like the caterpillar entering a cocoon, we believe something beautiful will emerge.

Happy Anniversary to the best neighbor we could ever have – our own Wise Acre Eatery! It is wonderful to have another outlet where we can connect individuals with our farm, plants, food, designs, and passion. We are very fortunate that the spaces that many of you enjoy are places where we can unleash the amazing creativity of our Tangletown Designs- whether it be the containers, living walls, or boulevard landscapes. We are proud of the health and beauty that both sides of the street bring to the neighborhood and happy to continue to share our future with you! . #tangletowngardens #wiseacreeatery #wiseacre #tangletowngardensfarm #tangletowngardensgrown #mpls #mplsfood #fresh #local #localfood #locallygrown #minnesotagrown #csa #myttgcsa #healthyfood #healthysoil #healthypeople #boulevards #plantsmakepeoplehappy #landscapes #containergardens #livewall #captiviatingcombinations

Northeast Minneapolis: Meet Peter, Master Tulip Gardener

Northeast Minneapolis: Meet Peter, Master Tulip Gardener

View this post on Instagram

Meet Peter. Master tulip gardener and long time Northeast Minneapolis resident. In 1948, he immigrated to NE Mpls from Holland. He and his wife Etta Aelis have been married 62 years! They’ve lived in the same house in NE for the past 32 years. Peter and Etta Aelis have many children and are very active in their local church. It was only four years ago that Peter retired from work and now pours his heart into his garden. He said he plants his tulip bulbs in the fall and this year he was able to get the #1 bulb from Holland. Later in the summer, he’ll grow some the best tomatoes and enough kale to freeze and last throughout the winter for a famous Holland stew he and Etta Aelis make. His yard is always stunning, but his tulips are spectacular because his dad was a tulip and vegetable farmer in Holland and he trained with him for a few years. Neighbors describe Peter as a kind man with a good family. When asked what he loves about Northeast, Peter says that he loves the neighborhood, that he has good neighbors, and that it’s close to downtown and the Mississippi River. Peter is 91 years young, but you’d never guess it. He stays active and keeps a positive spirit. Gardening is his life. From sun up to sun down, he gardens. His yard is immaculate and brings so much beauty to the neighborhood. Thank you, Peter, for sharing your remarkable story and for bringing joy to our community. _______________________________________ A special thanks to Peter’s neighbor, @jackiemyhoney, for sharing his story and these stunning photos with us. 🌷🌷🌷If you’d like to leave a message for Peter, comment below. Jackie plans to share this post with him. He doesn’t have Instagram. 😆 #bestofnempls
