Minnesota Prairie
…
It’s a stark transformation: at the time of the Public Land Surey between 1847 and 1908, Minnesota had 18 million acres of prairie.
…
Minnesota Scientific & Natural Areas: Today, a little over 2 percent of that prairie remains. Prairies build soil, clean water, and provide essential habitat. Some of Minnesota’s most unique species of plants and animals call our native prairies home! Many acres of native prairies are protected in MinnesotaSNAs, and still more are protected through conservation easements with the Native Prairie Bank program.
…
Adapted from the French word meaning meadow, prairie is much more than a field of grasses and wildflowers.
Native prairie refers to an ecosystem of interconnected plants, animals, soils, climate and cultures. Native prairie is a landscape where climate and disturbance over thousands of years have favored grassland over forest.

Mesabi Trail
…
The Mesabi Trail™ has been funded in part by the LCCMR and the Minnesota Environmental and Natural Resources Trust Fund.
Mesabi Trail: Stretching from the Mississippi to the Boundary Waters, with over 150 miles of paved trail, the Mesabi Trail is like no other in the country. Cutting through the forests of northeast Minnesota, your adventure will take you past lakes, creeks and ponds, by vast red pits of old iron ore mines now filled with emerald green water. You are sure to be greeted by native wildlife during your travels. Pass through 28 communities, stop in at a local attraction to experience the history of the area, learn about our mining and logging legacies, enjoy the local cuisine…try a sarma, a pasty or some potica.
When completed (in 1-2 years), this well-mapped and well-maintained trail will traverse almost 165 miles, making it one of the longest paved trails in the United States. There are only two sections remaining.
Great summer activities include biking, hiking, walking and inline skating. The trail is easily accessible from numerous locations. Amenities and services are available all along the trail, including lodging and campgrounds.

“Waiting in the Wings”
…
About the author
It is my profound honor to document and share the true stories of little-known, everyday American soldiers and airmen who risked their lives for our freedom. My first book, “Fighting for Delphine,” and its sequel, “Return to Fenetrange,” were borne of intriguing conversations with WWII veteran Ken Krueger. Shortly before my father, Neal, passed, he read Ken’s memoir and hinted that I should delve into his own Korean War narrative–containing a secret he had never revealed during his 83 years. “Waiting in the Wings” fulfills a promise to my father to expose the truth and help make the “Forgotten War” remembered. I am a retired educator who lives in Minnesota with my husband and son. We are blessed with three other adult children, their spouses, and eight grandchildren. Book profits support the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Mercy Ships, Samaritan’s Purse, and the Shepherds Foundation.
