“If you’ve been a fan of Leah’s creations from @cafeastoriasaintpaul, you’re going to love her new modern Filipino restaurant @kalsadasaintpaul, which opened in April. Kalsada aims to stay true to flavors of the Philippines even if some of the dishes aren’t traditional in nature. One of Leah’s favorite items from Kalsada’s breakfast menu will also probably be one of its most popular items, their Ube Pancakes pictured here! These ‘Ube Pancakes’ are made with purple yams, comes topped with mango, dragonfruit, coconut, and ube ice cream along with a side sweetened condensed milk in a mini creamer pitcher to pour on top of your pancakes. Loved the flavors of the pancakes especially with the sweetened condensed milk as well as the juxtaposition of the ube ice cream on top of the warm pancakes” –shawnsrodgers

Kalsada serves Cafe Astoria goodies in the morning and becomes a full-service Filipino restaurant at night. The food is modern Filipino, another take on traditional Filipino cuisine.

About Kalsada

When Leah Raymundo was growing up, parents would shoo the kids out of the house to play. “All the kids in my neighborhood, we would play outside, it was a good place to play.” That’s why she chose the name Kalsada, which means “street” in Filipino, for her newest restaurant adventure with her partner, chef John Occhiato. The pair also owns Cafe Astoria and Stella Belle on the corner of St. Paul’s West 7th Street and Grand Avenue.

Kalsada will be a modern restaurant serving the food of chef Leah Raymundo’s native Philippines. Filipino food draws influences from Asia, Spain, and the indigenous island cuisine. The menu will stay true to those flavors, even if the dishes are less traditional.

From 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., the restaurant will resemble a Cafe Astoria West before reopening at 4 p.m. with table service, a full dinner menu stacked with shareable dishes, and a full bar serving some tropical cocktails.
