Memorial Day at the Fort Minnesota History Center – St. Paul, MN

Join us for Memorial Day to learn about the expansive military history at Historic Fort Snelling!

The historic fort will be open to explore at your own pace in addition to special events specifically for the holiday. There will be a flag ceremony, cannon firing, swing band performances, a period speech from World War II and a performance by the Fife & Drum Corps. Visitors can also witness the firing of historic rifles from five different eras of the fort’s history.

We commemorate those who served in the armed forces. Veterans receive free admission to Historic Fort Snelling. Active military personnel and their families receive free admission through the Blue Star program from Armed Forces Day to Labor Day.

The Brooklyn Big Band will be performing at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm inside the historic fort.

“Jay’s Longhorn” Film Screening & Panel Discussion – St. Paul, MN

Jay’s Longhorn was the epicenter of the Minneapolis punk rock and indie rock scene in the late 1970s. At a time when the music scene was dominated by Top 40 cover bands, a group of punk rock visionaries-led by Andy Schwartz, former publisher of the New York Rocker-scoured the city in search of a place that would welcome the New Wave.

The Suicide Commandos, Flamingo, Curtiss A, and The Suburbs found a home at Jay’s Longhorn, which also served as the launchpad for Hüsker Dü and The Replacements and the preferred venue for touring acts like Elvis Costello, The B-52s, and The Police.

Join Sound Unseen for the St. Paul premiere of the film Jay’s Longhorn. A Q&A with director Mark Engebretson and special guests will follow the screening.
