Arboretum Gardens Winter Lights Season Opens! – Chaska, MN

Arboretum Gardens Winter Lights: Enjoy fresh air as you explore outdoor light displays, highlighting flowers, trees and the beauty of nature, on the one-mile self-guided walking route.

New for 2023 will be a color-changing tunnel, a Winter Village on Scarecrow Hill and a field of sunflowers, all with more lights than ever before! Revisit the 16-foot Weeping Willow in a new space and walk through a giant apple, which pays tribute to the Arboretum’s Horticultural Research Center’s apple breeding, including the Honeycrisp apple. Visitors will also be able to purchase s’mores kits ($7 for 4 s’mores) to roast over an open fire at the S’mores Village.

The Arboretum’s Oswald Visitor Center and Snyder Building will be decorated for the season with a 25-foot Poinsettia Tree and four seasonally decorated, fresh-cut trees. The Poinsettia Tree, created using more than 500 living plants, will display colors of red, white and pink with new hues of gold, orange and green poinsettias. You might also hear holiday tunes from local performers from our live Winter Music Series, offered on select nights.

Experience the magic of summer nights at the Arb with hundreds of fireflies flashing through the sky! Bring your family and friends along to marvel at the wonder of these glowing winged beetles (also known as lightning bugs). Begin your firefly viewing experience by gathering in the Sensory Garden Parking Lot to learn about these special creatures from local experts and Master Naturalists.

Every week we will feature other nighttime creatures that can also be spotted (or heard) during our Firefly Viewing Nights! You’ll be able to pick from four options for firefly viewing hikes throughout the Arboretum grounds. We’ll note which route offers the best viewing each night.

Join us on select nights November 17th – January 1st! Stroll through the gardens decked out in Winter Lights. Enjoy fresh air as you explore outdoor light displays, highlighting flowers, trees and the beauty of nature, on a .75-mile walking route. See the new 16-foot weeping willow tree and walk through the giant apple, which pays tribute to our Horticultural Research Center’s apple research. Stop by s’mores village to warm up near a fire and buy s’mores kits to roast marshmallows.

The Arboretum’s Oswald Visitor Center and Snyder Building will also be decorated for the season — and we’re delighted to announce the return of our 25-foot Poinsettia Tree, created using more than 500 red, white and pink poinsettias. You might also hear holiday tunes from local performers from our live Music Series, offered on select nights.

Special theme nights are available for families and photographers as well as date nights for adults and a New Year’s Eve celebration for all ages.

Join us for the inaugural Arb May Markets, as we host up to 40 local crafts and arts vendors. You won’t be disappointed with the quality of products, ranging from artisan foods to handmade jewelry, spa-worthy bath and body products and nature-inspired art. The May Markets are included with Arboretum gate admission, which is free for Arboretum members and children ages 15 and younger, and $15 for non-members. Everyone must make reservations to visit the Arboretum in advance of their visit.
