Cornell Lab of Ornithology Birdcast: The fall migration is underway!

Minnesota State Parks and Trails

Showcasing the spectacle of bird migration!

If you like following the Fall Color Finder map, you’re going to love the BirdCast migration map powered by the Cornell Lab, Colorado State University and U Mass Amherst. BirdCast forecasts nightly migration numbers and it’s an amazing way to find out how many (and even which species) birds are soaring by on their way to warmer horizons.

In the past few weeks, migration soared as roughly 87,000,000 birds took flight across Minnesota on their journey south. The birds averaged 27 mph, an altitude of 2,000ft, and a SSE heading.
