Askov Finlayson: The Hat That Started A Movement
The Hat That Started A Movement
…
We first introduced the North Hat in 2013. And with them, an idea defined by hard work, creativity, cold winters, and year-round exploration. We made 150 hats that year, which sure seemed like a lot at the time. They sold out in four days, and the rest is history.
Since then, the idea those first hats were created to test – a stronger identity for our region and an opportunity to tell our own story to the rest of the world – has taken off in ways we never could have imagined. And because of your support, that incredible momentum inspired our mission to Keep The North Cold. If the North was going to become a movement, we wanted to make sure it was a movement for good.
Eight years later, our North Hats are still knit right here in Minnesota. The only difference? They’re now made of 100% recycled yarn, representing an almost 40% reduction in CO2 emissions compared with the original. We make a lot more than 150 per season, but their purpose remains the same – to celebrate the North while protecting it, too.
